Greater Cleveland Flute Society
March 1, 2008 Flute Festival Review
Participants
at the March 1, 2008 flute festival enjoyed a day of workshops,
visiting
vendors, and performing. Attendees
worked on flute choir skills,
intonation, technique, and performing as a
member of an ensemble.
Students
were divided into two flute choirs: Performing and Sight-reading.
The Performing Choir was directed by
Phyllis Louke, and the Sight-reading Choir was led by GCFS
board member
and music educator, Ann Droste. Rachel Sirey, Erica Kodramaz,
and
Robin Meiksins played in a masterclass led Phyllis Avidan Louke.
Ms. Louke gave an informational
presentation on big flutes and
directed the Performing Flute Choir. The day ended with a
Finale Concert
that included 3 performances. Ms.
Louke performed her
own composition: Echoes
in the Wind,
Erica Kodramaz played
Cantabile
et Presto by
Enesco, and the Performing Flute Choir performed
selections by Coolen,
Louke, Mussorgsky and McMichael.
