The Greater Cleveland Flute Society
was begun as a group of flute enthusists in 1997 and officially became incorporated in Ohio on July 14, 2011. The GCFS is governed by a board of directors who volunteer their time in order to achieve the Society's mission:
- Promote and encourage interest and study of the flute in the community at all levels
- Sponsor and promote recitals, masterclasses,concerts and lectures which feature the flute
- Sponsor and promote flute education and instruction in the community
- Participate in or provide outreach activities to the community to enhance awareness of music and the flute
- Cooperate with related regional and national organizations such as the National Flute Association
